Life in Stillwater, OK

Now the fact that Michale Jackson died today really dosen't mean much to me. I think it's more of the fact that I didn't find out till about 7:00 this evening. Today was one of the longest days we've had. In addition to having rehearsal, we had a screening of the little red truck. Our DVD documentary, in hopes that we would sell a few, but alas no go! I mean it's great to see the movie every time, but not when I've forgotten my lunch at home and we still have to put up the set afterward and I'm starving and beginning to get cranky.

Well that's how our day went today. I mean not completly horrible but, it's was deff. one of the first times where I wanted to go home way before it was actually time. I have really no idea what Michael Jackson has to do with this, but I guess it's just something sill in the back of my head. I mean as cheesy as it sounds I'm actually quite sad about it. I mean MJ was the man. Even when he had all the creepy kid stuff going on I still thought he was the awesome-est! (Yes, I just made that word up)

Other than that life is peachy. We're in Stillwater, OK about to start our second day of runs. And these kids are great. This week was one of the first where we had alot of kids show up and we actually had to cut people, which was rough to say the least. I mean every kid in the audition was good. I don't know what's in the water here but it makes all the kids were awesome at singing dancing and acting. I mean really if we had the costumes and stage space I totally would have been willing to put them all in the cast just cause it would be that awesome!

SO here are a few pics of my excursion through Stillwater yesterday:

This is on our way to OK, we passed Gainesville, TX of course I was excited!

So apparently the OSU cowboys are really really really into wrestling

and this is the really big OSU football player right outside of the car dealership near our Hotel (of course he's black!)

June 13 2009

*I wrote this when I was in a home with no Internet so it's a little delayed*

June 13th, 2009

So! We made I through our first residency week out here in Austin Texas! Everything I’m pretty sure went off without a hitch. Throughout our entire week at One World Theater, I lost myself and found myself again about 16 different times. I’m forever thankful that our amazing trainer Eric was with us the entire week. He had the prefect mix of advise yet knew to back off when he could.

I think the craziest thing about this entire process is the fact that it works! Now I know that a million and one times all of our trainers at the home base constantly told us that if we just believed in the teaching process everything would work out fine, and honestly I believed them. I just think I’m still just as much baffled as the parents with the fact that these kids can put together a full hour length musical in a week. I mean they we so great! And the smiles that they all have during that final curtain call made this whole week full of stress totally worth it.

I’m sure I’ll have more to speak on with this kids, so I guess I’ll touch on Austin as a city itself. I’m actually still in awe that Austin still exist in Texas, I would have never placed this interesting city with such interesting people in one of the most notoriously county bumpkin state. Our first couple days we stayed in the HOJO which was a short drive away from downtown Austin. Now once you get to downtown Austin there is not a lack of things to do. I mean the amount of bars alone could make a grown man cry. We were lucky enough to experience some of the highlights such as the Alamo Draft House which is a movie theater where they serve you meals and you can get beers and stuff like that it’s basically awesome. We went and saw the Hangover which was one of the best comedy’s I’ve seen in a while. Which was pretty surprising as well.

Next week we’re off to Irving, TX where my father lives, I guess we’ll see what that bring.

MISS YOU ALL! LOVE PEACE AND HAIR GREASE!
